Next-gen, next-door steel manufacturing the focus of SMSVC

Seminar focused on raising awareness of decarbonization efforts in the steel industry.

Event held August 17, 2022

As global steel demand increases, 27% of U.S. production is centered in nearby Indiana. Decarbonization pillars for the steel industry are energy efficiency, electrification and alternative fuels and carbon capture, said Chenn Zhou, director of the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium (SMSVC) at Purdue University Northwest, during her seminar at the laboratory. SMSVC is leveraging digital twins to reduce experimental complexity in this high temperature process, using multi-physics modeling as well as data-driven modeling.
