The Strategic Transportation Education & Partnerships (STEP) department’s mission is to:

  • Research, develop, demonstrate, and deploy cutting edge science and technology.
  • Create impactful education and workforce programming.
  • Shape transportation solutions and build the next generation workforce.

The STEP department is a multi-disciplinary team with decades of experience managing large public/private partnerships between government, industry, and academia.

Our featured expertise spans the areas of: 

  • Applied research in advanced mobility — electrification, V2X connectivity, vehicle automation, advanced sensors and advanced controlled systems.
  • Student competitions and academic partnerships in transportation technologies and education.
  • Education and workforce development — training and education throughout the STEM pipeline, curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Deployment and demonstration programs to support local transportation and energy projects.
  • Public outreach and engagement.
