Virtual Engine Research Institute and Fuels Initiative

VERIFI
VERIFI is the first and only source in the world for high-fidelity, 3D, end-to-end, combustion engine simulation/visualization and simultaneous powertrain and fuel simulation, with uncertainty quantification

The Virtual Engine Research Institute and Fuels Initiative (VERIFI) at Argonne National Laboratory consults with industry and academia to perform predictive engine simulations using high-fidelity physical and kinetic models and high-performance computing tools. Argonne makes these models available after extensive validation against the VERIFI’s unparalleled datasets. This work supports development of:

  • High-fidelity, three-dimensional, end-to-end engine simulations and visualizations
  • Fuel and engine efficiency co-optimization tools
  • Different low temperature combustion concepts for next-generation engines
  • Uncertainty quantification for engines

Argonne is home to computational modeling expertise and high-performance computing facilities that improve best practices” for engine simulations by original equipment manufacturers, reducing the time and cost of the design cycle for new engines, resulting in considerable cost savings. More efficient modeling will yield better engines, brought to market faster at a lower cost for consumers. This work can also facilitate the rapid adaptation of fuels from new sources and lead to substantial increases in fuel economy while meeting future emissions standards.
