Argonne Accelerator Institute

 AAI
Much of the research of Argonne National Laboratory, and indeed the scientific community at large depends on the accelerator based tools at Argonne.

In 2006, Argonne Laboratory Director Robert Rosner formed the AAI as a focal point for accelerator initiatives. The institute works to utilize Argonne’s extensive accelerator resources, to enhance existing facilities, to determine the future of accelerator development and construction, and to oversee a dynamic and acclaimed accelerator physics portfolio.

The Argonne Accelerator Institute is dedicated to advancing particle accelerator science and technology to drive discovery, spark innovation, and create societal impact. Its mission includes:
  • Developing next-generation accelerators to drive breakthrough research in quantum information science, condensed matter, and particle physics, unlocking new frontiers of knowledge.
  • Transforming medicine, national security, and industry by applying cutting-edge accelerator technologies to address critical challenges.
  • Building and sustaining a strong pipeline of accelerator scientists and engineers to ensure U.S. leadership in accelerator innovation.
  • Harnessing the expertise of world-class facilities at Argonne National Laboratory to foster bold collaborations and shape the future of accelerator science and technology.
