Abstract: The nuclear science community works together approximately every seven years through the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC) to develop a framework for coordinated advancement of the nation’s nuclear science objectives. This Long Range Plan (LRP) identifies and prioritizes the scientific opportunities facing our field in the next decade and provides recommendations on how to achieve these goals. In the 2023 LRP, a recommendation was made to raise “the compensation of graduate researchers to levels commensurate with their cost of living – without contraction of the workforce – lowering barriers and expanding opportunities in STEM for all, and so boosting national competitiveness.” This talk will outline the rationale behind this recommendation and possible implementation strategies moving forward.
