For over 50 years, Argonne has advanced vehicle efficiency, propulsion technologies, and transportation systems by working from the component- to the vehicle-level across all modes. Through ongoing research, Argonne is refining existing technologies while developing new solutions to improve the performance of transportation networks. The laboratory is also a leader in the education and training of the future transportation workforce. 

Argonne scientists and engineers contribute to progress in electric vehicle technologies, grid integration, and hydrogen propulsion. Researchers are also enhancing next-generation batteries, lightweight materials, and alternative fuels while refining connected and automated vehicle technologies to improve safety and efficiency. Through simulation and real-world testing, Argonne is optimizing energy-efficient transportation networks that seamlessly integrate with the electric grid, ensuring continued improvements in mobility.
