Co-design Center for Online Data Analysis and Reduction at the Exascale

CODAR
Co-design Center for Online Data Analysis and Reduction at the Exascale (CODAR) will address a growing disparity between simulation speeds and I/O rates rendering it infeasible for HPC and data analytic applications to perform offline analysis.

The mission of CODAR is to strengthen and optimize processes for data analysis and reduction for the exascale.

Researchers in CODAR are developing innovative techniques, such as lossy compression and feature extraction, that reduce redundant information without losing important information. Co-design Center for Online Data Analysis and Reduction at the Exascale (CODAR) will address a growing disparity between simulation speeds and I/O rates rendering it infeasible for HPC and data analytic applications to perform offline analysis. CODAR will target common data analysis and reduction methods (e.g., feature and outlier detection, compression) and methods specific to particular data types and domains (e.g., particles, FEM). In addition, CODAR will focus on deducing application development risk by providing performance tradeoffs for offline vs. inline analyses of simulation results, produce and integrate into applications high-performance products embodying data analysis and reduction methods.

The co-design center staff work closely with the other ECP focus areas -- hardware, software technology, and applications. The objective is to ensure an integrated exascale ecosystem that takes into consideration the myriad options and tradeoffs involved in enabling high-performance computing and data analytic applications at the exascale.
