Biography

Dr. Chao Xu is a postdoctoral appointee in the Energy Systems division at Argonne National Laboratory. Dr. Xu’s research focuses on developing accurate and efficient numerical methods for turbulent combustion modeling with detailed chemical kinetics, and on leveraging these methods for improved understanding and design optimization of real-world applications such as internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Dr. Xu is a recipient of Argonne’s 2020 Impact Argonne Award-Innovation for accelerating heavy-duty engine optimization using supercomputing. 

Dr. Xu received his PhD from University of Connecticut in Mechanical Engineering (2018), and a Bachelor’s degree in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University (2012).
