Chao Xu

Research Scientist

Dr. Chao Xu is a Research Scientist in the Transportation and Power Systems division at Argonne National Laboratory. Dr. Xu’s research focuses on developing accurate and efficient numerical methods for near-wall turbulence modeling, turbulent combustion modeling, detailed chemistry calculation, and on leveraging these methods for improved understanding and design optimization of real-world applications such as internal combustion engines, gas turbines and offshore wind turbines. Dr. Xu is a recipient of Argonne’s 2020 Impact Argonne Award-Innovation for accelerating heavy-duty engine optimization using supercomputing.

Dr. Xu received his PhD from University of Connecticut in Mechanical Engineering (2018), and a Bachelor’s degree in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University (2012).
