Biography

Duck Young Chung is a Senior Materials Scientist in the Quantum States and Crystalline Matter Group at Argonne National Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kyungpook National University in 1991. In 1992, he joined the research group of Prof. Mercouri G. Kanatzidis at Michigan State University as a postdoctoral researcher and later became a Research Faculty member in the Department of Chemistry. In 2006, he joined Materials Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory.

Dr. Chung has extensive expertise and a distinguished track record in solid-state chemistry and materials science. His research focuses on the exploratory synthesis and crystal growth of novel inorganic materials, advanced structural, chemical, and physical characterization, and the development of innovative synthesis and crystal growth methodologies. His work spans a broad range of material systems, including chalcogenides, pnictides, halides, and intermetallic compounds, with applications in thermoelectrics, superconductivity, topological quantum materials, and high-energy radiation detection.  Dr. Chung has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and patents.
