Wei-Ying Chen

Principal Materials Scientist

Biography

Dr. Chen is a Materials Scientist in the Nuclear Materials Group in Argonne’s Nuclear Science and Engineering Division. His research focuses on the microstructural characterization of the effects of radiation, high temperature and corrosion on materials in nuclear fission and fusion systems. He specializes in performing in situ TEM irradiation experiments to investigate the evolution of nanoscale microstructures under irradiation in real time. He is interested in how radiation modifies material microstructure, its dependence on the environmental parameters, and the resulting impact on the mechanical properties. He is also interested in the development of new materials with improved radiation resistance or manufactured by new method.

Award and Professional Societies

Dr. Chen received the 2018 Early Career Award at the Nuclear Materials Conference held in Seattle, WA. He has been a member of the American Nuclear Society and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society. He is a technical reviewer for the Journal of Nuclear Materials.

Publications

Dr. Chen has published over 30 peer-reviewed journals and technical reports.
