Earth Day Celebration
Highlighting research and promoting sustainable actions
Argonne celebrates Earth Day annually in April with activities to promote sustainable actions and highlight the lab’s research in energy and the environment.
For the last few years, we have transformed the cafeteria into an interactive learning space, bringing information and resources to employees and visitors during their lunch.
Participants tour booths and interactive displays set up by Argonne community partners, “green” programs, clubs, and services available to the Laboratory community. More than a dozen Argonne partners typically participate.
Our Earth Day celebration is also a time to prominently feature Argonne researchers who are seeking scientific and engineering solutions to the grand challenges of our time: sustainable energy, a healthy environment and a secure nation.
ARGONNE EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
Argonne’s promote sustainable actions that will benefit the laboratory and people at home. Interactive activities feature information on telecommuting, sustainability trivia, and the BlueJeans teleconferencing system. Internal Argonne organizations also promote on-site resources that support sustainability.
Employees are the heart of the Earth Day Celebration. Volunteers help to plan the event with support of the Sustainability Program and engage with their fellow employees throughout the event activities. Employees also share their personal passions, such as showcasing their low- and zero-emissions vehicles at the Green Vehicle display or taking a photo with their favorite green action in our photo booth.
