Water: Selective Separation

This focus area involves developing functional groups, sorbents, membranes and catalysts for selective separation of various contaminants from water.

The contaminants span a wide range: heavy metals such as lead, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, radioactive elements, oil and other petroleum products, and pharmaceuticals. Key here is investigating water science for adsorption and separation, surface reactivity, and transport phenomena in confined spaces.
