Welcome to Argonne National Laboratory’s Biosciences Division, where our overarching mission is to use state-of-the-art technology to conduct multidisciplinary basic research that will increase our understanding of the fundamental molecular mechanisms of life.

Our goal is to enable important advances in environmental protection and remediation, energy production and sustainability, and human health and welfare. Our research projects range from ecosystems to genomes and proteins and to important biochemical processes at the molecular level. 

As a division, our goals include gaining predictive understanding of biological processes controlling environmental fluxes (carbon, nutrients, and contaminants) and improving our understanding of how these processes affect ecosystem function. Within Biosciences, we also host a number of facilities to support the efforts of our multidisciplinary and diverse research staff.
