Advanced Beam Manipulation in Modern Accelerators

HEP Seminar

Abstract: Beam manipulation is a process to rearrange beam’s distribution in 6-D phase space. In this talk, I will discuss techniques for tailoring beam distribution in 6-D phase space to meet the requirements of various applications, such as free-electron laser and ultrafast MeV electron diffraction and microscopy. I will focus on advanced beam manipulation with wakefields, space charge force, and THz radiation. These techniques become a new focus of accelerator physics research and development, and they will very likely open up new opportunities in accelerator-based scientific facilities as well as the science enabled by them.
