Toward Scalable Networked and Distributed Quantum Computing: Simulation and Testbed Tools Bridging Theory and Experiment
Events section menu
Abstract: Linking quantum processing units through quantum networks is a promising path toward scalable and fault-tolerant quantum computing. However, the networking technologies needed to interconnect quantum processors remain far less mature than the processors themselves.
In this talk, I will summarize my research on simulation and testbed tools that help bridge the gap between theory and experiment in networked quantum systems. I will introduce SeQUeNCe, an open-source discrete-event quantum network simulator developed at Argonne and a 2026 Research and Development 100 Award winner. I will then describe the Argonne Quantum Network Testbed (ArQNet), with particular emphasis on its classical control plane. Finally, I will discuss future research directions in networked and distributed quantum computing systems.
