Access to Argonne Site for Foreign (non-US) Attendees of Decommissioning Training Course

Special considerations apply for attendees who are not U.S. citizens, especially about extra time needed to process requests for site access. This page will help non-US Attendees to find out:

  • How to request access to the Argonne site, and
  • Which is the required I.D. information.

Access Authorization for non-US Citizens planning to attend the Facility Decommissioning Training Course

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has established guidelines and requirements for foreign visitors who need to access its facilities and sites. This guidance is issued in DOE Order 142.3, which is part of Argonne’s contract. Therefore, all foreign visitors (non-US Citizens) requiring access to the Argonne site are required to obtain access authorization prior to arrival. This requires Argonne Visitor Registration and processing which - depending on the visitor’s nationality - typically requires somewhere between 21 days - 30 days.

  • non-US citizens registering for the TC online: at the conclusion of the online registration you will be sent a link to Argonne’s visitor registration system. When registering, please list Larry Boing ( lboing@​anl.​gov ) as your sponsor.
  • non-US citizens registering for the TC by sending a fax registration form: you will be contacted and provided a link to Argonne’s visitor registration system. When registering, please list Larry Boing ( lboing@​anl.​gov ) as your sponsor.

It is critical that registration is completed as early as possible to facilitate timely processing for your access approval.

Required I.D. information for non-US Citizens

Please register in advance. Both new visits and returning visits need current/approved DOE paperwork before site access can be granted.

When you arrive at Argonne, you must show two forms of identification:

  1. a current passport, plus
  2. the appropriate in-status INS documents, depending on your visa status. Namely for:
Non-U.S. citizens who are Legal Permanent Residents (green card holders)
  1. Permanent Resident Info (number begins with A#.…)
  2. Passport
Canadian citizens:
  1. Canadian Driver’s License
  2. Passport
Expired visa and visa extension requested
  1. (Most recent) I-94 number, country of issue, and expiry date
  2. Passport; show both at Argonne Welcome Center on arrival at Argonne National Laboratory
Visa waiver countries
  1. I-94W (visa waiver), stamped in passport
  2. Passport; show both at Argonne Welcome Center on arrival at Argonne National Laboratory
In-status visa
  1. Passport
  2. Appropriate alternate credentials; fax to 630/252-9250 at time of registration and show at Argonne Welcome Center on arrival at Argonne National Laboratory
  • J-1 visa holder -- please submit DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility for J-1 Status)
  • F-1 visa holder -- please submit I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status for Academic and Language Students)
  • Change of status -- please submit I-797 (Adjustment of Status Form) or I-485 (Application to Adjust to Lawful Permanent Resident, or adjust status)
