Abstract: Errors remain one of the main bottlenecks to demonstrating useful quantum computing. In this seminar, we will discuss several approaches to quantum error management.
We will begin with Pauli check sandwiching, an error detection technique closely related to stabilizer codes. Pauli checks use controlled Pauli operations to detect errors that anticommute with the chosen checks. We will then describe how we extended this framework to error detection in distributed quantum computing and quantum networks.
Next, we will discuss how Pauli checks can be extended beyond error detection to error mitigation through circuit cutting and extrapolation, as well as how they can be used to improve qubit mapping at runtime. We will also present our work on distribution error mitigation, which was supported by a laboratory-directed research and development seed grant. Finally, we will discuss our work on quantum error correction and entanglement purification for restricted distributed architectures.
