Advanced battery design competition aimed at the development of electric mobility for commercial applications.

BattChallenge is a flagship Battery R&D Competition for education institutions that will foster a talent pipeline of trained engineers and technicians who can immediately contribute to North America’s battery industry.

  • BattChallenge invites up to 12 universities and vocational partners (community colleges, trade schools and apprenticeship programs) together to design, build, test, and integrate an advanced EV battery pack into a production Stellantis vehicle.
  • Teams will be provided commercial EV cells to integrate into their battery pack design and will design the BMS, mechanical and thermal component designs, wiring, software for monitoring and controls.
  • Argonne and sponsors will provide in depth training and guidance from SMEs to ensure students have the tools to succeed at the objectives of the competition.
  • The vocational element widens the impact of the competition to develop skilled technicians and workers to help meet the demands of the EV/Battery industry beyond engineering roles.
