Biography

Dr. Byungho Lee is the Director of the Advanced Mobility and Grid Integration Technology (AMAGIT) department at Argonne National Laboratory, within the Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) division. With a rich background spanning two decades in automotive propulsion and mobility technology development, Dr. Lee brings extensive experience from his recent role as the Director of the Electrified Propulsion Development division at Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) in Ann Arbor, MI. His expertise is especially pronounced in areas such as vehicle electrification, propulsion development, and the integration of advanced R&D into practical applications.

At HATCI, Dr. Lee led a number of Department of Energy-funded projects and collaborations with national laboratories, focusing on innovative technologies. Prior to his tenure at HATCI, he contributed significantly to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts in Greenhouse Gas technical analysis and rulemaking for heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles.

In his role at Argonne, Dr. Lee is tasked with spearheading the AMAGIT department’s mission to develop cutting-edge transportation solutions. He oversees the department’s initiatives to tackle challenges in smart e-mobility and transportation electrification, leveraging Argonne’s advanced R&D capabilities to foster innovation and effective technology deployment.

Dr. Lee holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, where his research focused on rapid model-based calibration, optimization, and control of advanced propulsion systems.
