Design and Drafting Group Leader

Biography

Brian became the Design and Drafting Group Leader in 2007. Under his leadership, the Design and Drafting Group has flourished, growing from 8 members in 2008 to a peak of 39 during the Upgrade in 2022. Currently, the team is 23 designers and engineers. Brian began his career at Argonne in 2000 as a designer before being promoted to an engineer in 2005.

One of his most significant contributions to the company has been introducing Additive Manufacturing to the APS in 2009 with an entry-level PolyJet machine. This initiative has grown impressively over the years, with 11 machines now in operation, including PolyJet, FDM, and Bound Metal Deposition. With these new capabilities, the group has been able to tackle new challenges and create innovative solutions that were previously impossible.

In addition to his achievements with Additive Manufacturing, Brian has expanded the group’s capabilities in other areas. He has added both meteorology grade 3D scanning and large area scanning to the group’s toolkit, which has been utilized for as-built conditions and existing infrastructure investigation. These technologies have proved to be invaluable in the group’s ongoing work, allowing them to work with precision and detail that was once impossible.
