Biography

Cathy Milostan is a Market Analysis & Technology Development specialist for CEEESA (Center for Energy, Environmental and Economic Systems Analysis) serving as a technology-to-market specialist helping Argonne scientists commercialize their innovations by creating techno-economic and financial modelling tools to identify costs, risks, valuation and project return potential to develop funding opportunities. Cathy is also conducting (and providing training for) customer discovery to identify minimum market requirements, and is performing techno-economic analyses to identify and communicate market applications, community benefits, competitive strengths and market niches for innovations. Cathy is building communication tools to amplify Argonne’s research and help scientists build relationships with sponsors and industry partners.  Cathy is a co-author and conference speaker on Argonne energy efficiency projects, and served as DOE Energy I-Corps Entrepreneurial Lead to lead customer discovery interviews to identify early adopters and refine value propositions.

Prior to joining Argonne, Cathy worked for 25+ years as an investment advisor recommending energy and utility stocks for Morningstar, Bank of America wealth managers, energy/utility hedge fund and Goldman Sachs. This included examining energy pricing dynamics against company growth strategies and competitive strengths to forecast earnings potential and valuations. Cathy wrote and published investment reports detailing buy, hold, sell recommendations for institutional and retail investors. Cathy was a conference speaker for the American Gas Association and provided TV and news interviews including detailing BP’s financial exposure during the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill for The New York Times, Canadian BNN Bloomberg TV network and other media outlets.

Cathy also has early career experience specializing in energy/utility finance as a Corporate Finance investment banker at Prudential Securities managing initial public offerings and equity/bond financing, and as a Chase Bank corporate lending officer in charge of building relationships and leading term loan and project-financing transactions for CFOs and Treasurers of Midwest and Pacific Northwest investor-owned utilities.
