Research Interests

I study properties of unstable nuclei located far from the line of beta stability. ATLAS with its high-quality intense beams of heavy ions is an ideal tool for producing nuclei with excess of protons. Listed below are recent experimental examples related to:

  • the doubly-magic 100Sn nucleus [1,5,9],
  • nuclei spontaneously emitting protons [6],
  • levels above the proton threshold in light proton-rich nuclei, which are situated along the path of the astrophysical rapid proton-capture process [4,7,8],
  • very heavy transfermium nuclei [2,3,10].

All these experiments were performed using the GAMMASPHERE array of gamma-ray detectors and the Argonne Fragment Mass Analyzer.
