Biography

Understanding the dynamic behavior of catalytic materials under realistic reaction conditions is essential for advancing technologies in energy conversion and storage. Synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy offers element-specific insights into oxidation states, coordination environments, and reaction intermediates in real time. Throughout my career, I have utilized and improved these methods to study heterogeneous catalysts, electrocatalysts, and energy materials under operando conditions, establishing structure–function relationships that inform catalyst design. 

 At Argonne, in the eBERlight group, I focus on extending the applications of synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy to fields such as biology, Earth sciences, and environmental studies. I am committed to broadening its capabilities for characterizing complex biological and environmental samples, developing innovative experimental approaches, and fostering collaborations that connect molecular-scale spectroscopic measurements with environmental and biological modeling efforts.
