Biography
Gillian King-Cargile is passionate about helping people learn more about the world around them. She has a B.A. in Film Production and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Southern Illinois University.
At Argonne National Laboratory, Gillian works closely with researchers in the Computing, Environment and Life Sciences Directorate. She creates articles, videos, tours, events, and experiences to share how Argonne’s cutting-edge research and pivotal discoveries are shaping everything from human health to energy access to our understanding of the cosmos.
With a background in writing, filmmaking, and podcasting, Gillian excels at making connections between storytellers and scientists. She has led several initiatives to communicate complex research through the lens of science fiction and pop-culture.
Before joining Argonne, Gillian worked in communications and university outreach where she created an innovative reading program that used popular fiction books as a gateway to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
In addition to her science communications work, Gillian is also the author of several books and stories for adults and children. In everything she does, Gillian seeks to use her humor, creativity, and curiosity to kindle a love of learning.
