Biography

Dr. Jagannath Jena is a postdoctoral appointee in the Materials Science division at Argonne National Laboratory. He earned his M.Sc. in Physics from Utkal University before pursuing his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics (MPIMSP) in Germany, where he graduated in 2021. During his doctoral studies and postdoc at MPIMSP, Jagannath made significant discoveries related to complex topological spin textures and their exotic properties in various Heusler compounds and 2D magnetic materials using transmission electron microscopy techniques. For his remarkable advances in the field of chiral spintronics he was awarded the prestigious Otto-Hahn Medal in 2021 by the Max Planck Society, recognizing him as one of the best young scientists. At Argonne National Laboratory, Jagannath’s research focuses on thin film synthesis using molecular beam epitaxy and exploring the structural, magnetic, electronic, and optical properties of quantum materials, including topological semimetals and magnetic materials.
