Jason Budd

Jason Budd is the Deputy Chief Operations Officer and serves as the Interim Senior Director of Infrastructure Services (IS). He has been with the lab since 2009.

Budd’s responsibilities include the management and oversight of Argonne’s operations, including infrastructure, information technology, environment, safety, security, financial management, procurement, and human resources. He leads the enterprise portfolio management board, addressing risk management and ensuring investments are aligned with the lab’s strategic goals.

Budd oversees the day-to-day management of Argonne’s 1,500-acre site. He leads campus planning efforts, including securing funding for capital improvements and overseeing major construction projects. Budd’s executive direction and partnership with research and operations leaders across the lab enables Argonne’s world-leading, innovative science, securing the lab’s position among the top research institutions in the world.

Prior to Argonne, Budd served as project manager for the Naval Sea Systems Command Program Executive Office in Washington, D.C., where he managed research and development defense programs in coordination with multiple government and industrial partners. He was also a branch manager, project manager, and mechanical engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Maryland, overseeing weapon system research and design projects.

Jason Budd has both a Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland. He completed the Strategic Laboratory Leadership Program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Budd is also a Project Management Professional certified by the Project Management Institute.
