Biography

Jonathan Marcks is an assistant staff scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, working within the Q-NEXT National QIS Research Center and the Quantum Information Science & Technology group. Jonathan is generally interested in electron spin physics in semiconductors and its quantum science applications. He leads the Chicago Quantum Computing Testbed (CQCT), a Q-NEXT collaboration with industrial partners to explore the physics of scaling up silicon quantum dot qubits. His work in the QIST Group and the Argonne Quantum Foundry investigates spin dynamics and decoherence processes of spin defects in wide-bandgap semiconductors such as diamond.

Jonathan received his Ph.D. (2023) in Quantum Science & Engineering from the University of Chicago, where he was awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (2019), working with Prof. David Awschalom on spin qubits in diamond. He received his B.S. (2017) in Engineering Physics from Cornell University, where he worked with Prof. Greg Fuchs.
