Biography

Dr. Kang Shen is a postdoctoral appointee in the Energy Systems and Infrastructure Analysis (ESIA) division at Argonne National Laboratory. His research is centered on the life cycle analysis (LCA) of energy and environmental impacts associated with transportation technologies, lithium-ion batteries, and other energy systems. Recently, Dr. Shen has focused on investigating the environmental impacts and critical materials related to various reconductoring options for electricity transmission. This work aims to provide valuable insights and assist stakeholders in making informed decisions concerning the most sustainable and cost-effective transmission expansion strategies. He also contributes to the development of Argonne’s R&D GREET® LCA model, focusing on the vehicle cycle (GREET2). He received his MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Case Western Reserve University.
