Matija Pavicevic

Energy Systems Engineer

Biography

Matija Pavičević, Ph.D. is an Energy Systems Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory with over 8 years of experience in mathematical optimization and energy systems modeling, and more than 5 years in energy system planning focused on the water-energy-environment nexus. His expertise spans production cost models, expansion planning, energy market analysis, and the integration of power-to-X technologies.

Dr. Pavičević leads and contributes to advanced modeling efforts in hydropower operations—including downstream water temperature-constrained dispatch, economic assessment of environmental experiments in the Colorado River Basin, and optimization of cascading hydropower systems. He also works on river-centric and power-centric model linking, contractual and power flow modeling in transmission networks, and the assessment of pumped storage facilities. As part of his role, he provides technical, operational, and modeling support to the Western Area Power Administration’s Colorado River Storage Project (WAPA CRSP) office.

He has been involved in more than 10 internationally funded projects, with a particular emphasis on energy modeling in developing countries.
