Atmospheric Measurement Science Specialist

Biography

Matt comes from a background of research and atmospheric instrumentation spanning his academic and professional career. During his undergraduate degree at Central Michigan University, Matt worked on research involving how the Great Lakes influenced snow storms and tornadic events. He also was involved in the set up of an ASOS station at CMU. While at University of North Dakota, he was very involved with testing the National Center for Atmospheric Research’s (NCAR) 3D Printed Automated Weather Stations (PAWS). Shortly after graduating from UND, he began working with microwave radiometers at Radiometrics Corporation in Boulder, Colorado, where he was the QCS Manager and Atmospheric Scientist. 

Presently, Matt is the facility manager for the Argonne Testbed for Multi-scale Observational Studies (ATMOS), formerly known as bld 484, which houses an entire atmospheric instrumentation suite, including a 60m meteorological tower, 10m tip/tilt tower, concrete instrumentation pad, and vast precipitation measurements. Additionally, Matt is an associate mentor in the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) for the microwave radiometers and the surface meteorological instrumentation. 

Outside of Matt’s Argonne duties, he has held a Fixed-Term Faculty member at Central Michigan University.
