Biography
Monica Neukomm is Director of the Electric Grid Program at Argonne National Laboratory, where she leads the laboratory’s efforts to advance grid modernization, security and expansion.
In this role, she provides strategic vision and leadership for a growing portfolio of research and partnerships focused on strengthening the resilience of the nation’s energy systems, advancing domestic supply chains for critical grid technologies, and enabling the delivery of affordable, reliable and secure electricity.
Monica works closely with colleagues across Argonne, U.S. Department of Energy sponsors, and external partners to develop and scale high-impact research programs that address emerging challenges in energy infrastructure, national security and advanced technologies.
Prior to her current role, Monica served as Strategy and Innovation Director in the Decision and Infrastructure Sciences division within Argonne’s Nuclear Technologies and National Security directorate, as well as Deputy Interim Director of the Electric Grid Program. In these roles, she led efforts to advance applied research for critical infrastructure systems and played a key role in strengthening the program’s strategic direction and AI leadership.
Before joining Argonne in 2024, Monica spent 15 years at the U.S. Department of Energy, where she held a series of senior leadership positions. These included Director in the Office of the Under Secretary for Infrastructure and Acting Principal Deputy Director for Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response (CESER), where she contributed to national efforts to strengthen energy security, grid resilience and emergency response capabilities.
