Biography
Rajkumar Kettimuthu is a Senior Scientist and Group Leader in the Data Science and Learning Division at Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, data-intensive systems, advanced networking, and quantum networking. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to foundational software and systems that enable researchers to move, manage, analyze, and act on scientific data at scale, with applications ranging from synchrotron imaging and scientific workflows to distributed computing and quantum communication.
Kettimuthu has played leading roles in the development of widely used cyberinfrastructure and research platforms, including Globus data services, SeQUeNCe, a customizable simulator for quantum networks, and SciStream, a toolkit for streaming data between scientific instruments and HPC resources. His recent work emphasizes AI-enabled scientific workflows, real-time and near-real-time data analysis, scalable quantum network architectures, and systems that connect instruments, edge resources, supercomputers, and networks into cohesive platforms for science. He currently leads major research efforts including InterQnet, a DOE project focused on heterogeneous, scalable quantum networks.
He has authored or co-authored a large body of scholarly work and has received multiple honors for his contributions, including the ACM/IEEE SC25 Test of Time Award, an R&D 100 Award, Argonne’s Impact Award, and several best paper and technology challenge awards. He is a Distinguished Member of ACM and a Senior Member of IEEE. In addition to his research, Kettimuthu has served the broader community through technical leadership, conference organization, proposal review panels, invited talks, and the mentoring of postdoctoral researchers, staff, and students.
