The 1.1-km circumference APS facility consists of several major subsystems including magnets, vacuum chambers, radio-frequency cavities, diagnostics instrumentation, x-ray absorbers and apertures, and cooling water subsystems. Each of these subsystems contains hundreds of mechanical components that were designed and built by the Mechanical Operations and Maintenance Group of the APS Engineering Support Division.
