Biography
Sarah has a unique, multidisciplinary background bridging research safety, project management, education, sociological research, and materials research. She received her Ph.D. as an National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellow from the University of Chicago in physical chemistry in 2022. While in graduate school, she founded a cross-departmental program to help bridge the gap between researchers and safety administration and went on to work with the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Health and Safety to engage the research community on the national level. She worked closely with UChicago’s Division of Social Sciences to gain the expertise needed to study the impact of safety programming on researcher behavior, and holds a teaching certification in adult education which she leverages to create engaging and clearly-communicated content. After graduate school, Sarah completed her postdoctoral work at UCLA’s Center for Laboratory Safety where she studied researcher behavior, the effectiveness of safety programs, and institutional safety culture on a national scale. She joined Argonne in 2023.
Sarah enjoys crafts of all kinds, board games, video games, and spending time with her partner and three cats. And she’s learning how to play the Ukulele!
