Shikhar Kumar

Principal Nuclear Engineer

Biography

Shikhar Kumar is a Principal Nuclear Engineer within the Methods Development Group in Argonne’s National Science and Engineering Division, focused on software development and reactor analysis for advanced nuclear reactor applications. He is a key code contributor to the Griffin (unstructured mesh reactor physics), MOOSE (finite element method + multiphysics simulation), and OpenMC (Monte Carlo particle transport) code bases. Additional, he leads the technical analysis for an international fast reactor depletion benchmark being developed between Argonne National Laboratory and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA).

Prior to joining Argonne in 2021, Shikhar received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he developed novel High-Performance Computing (HPC) algorithms optimized for the next-generation Exascale supercomputers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory.
