Biography

Dr. Thomas Wallner is the director of Argonne National Laboratory’s Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) division. His team leverages its groundbreaking experimental and analytical capabilities to accelerate the development of advanced mobility and power technologies. TAPS focuses on conducting systematic and deep analyses and experimental evaluations of mobility technologies for on-road vehicles including light-, medium- and heavy-duty, non-road construction, agriculture, mining, rail, marine, and aviation sectors as well as stationary power generation, including combined heat and power systems. TAPS expertise and capabilities include workforce development, demonstration, and deployment of innovative technology solutions that support our nation’s energy security and competitiveness.

Thomas holds a M.S. and Ph.D. from Graz University of Technology, Austria, has published more than 100 peer-reviewed technical papers including 30 journal papers and several book chapters. He is an active Fellow Grade member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and has been serving as a session organizer and chair at several national and international conferences.
