Xiaoyi Zhang

Xiaoyi Zhang is a physicist and the group leader of the Time-Resolved Research Group in the X-ray Science Division of the Argonne National Laboratory. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from the University of Maryland at College Park in 2003. After completing her postdoctoral work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Argonne, she became a staff scientist at Argonne in 2007.

Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on understanding the dynamics and structure-function relationships of energy materials, using advanced laser and X-ray characterization tools. She successfully established a time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy and scattering program at the Advanced Photon Source, providing critical insights into transient processes in materials. In August 2019, she was appointed group leader of the Time-Resolved Research Group. In this role, she leads the team in developing and utilizing state-of-the-art laser-pump/X-ray probe techniques to investigate dynamics across multiple time and length scales, with applications in physics, chemistry, and materials science.
