National User Facilities


Argonne’s user facilities provide researchers with open access to the most advanced tools of modern science. Each year, over 10,000 researchers from academia, industry, and government laboratories use these facilities to perform new scientific research. Argonne’s Physical Sciences and Engineering Directorate is home to several state-of-the-art national scientific user facilities.

The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne is a DOE Office of Science user facility providing researchers from across the globe with world-class expertise and instrumentation for multidisciplinary nanoscience and nanotechnology research.
