Electric Grid

Enhancing the Reliability, Resilience and Adaptability of America’s Electric Grid

The electric grid is central to America’s prosperity and security, underpinning daily life and economic vitality. Argonne is at the forefront of improving grid resilience, reliability and adaptability through advanced modeling, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and innovative technologies.

Argonne applies cutting-edge mathematical and computational methods to optimize grid performance, integrate new energy sources and manage increasing demand from data-intensive operations. Our risk assessment work ensures that the grid can withstand natural and human-made disruptions, maintaining reliability under evolving threats. . We also assess how the grid both supports and relies on other infrastructure systems including water, wastewater, communications, and transportation.

Argonne focuses on holistic grid planning, optimizing operations, and deploying integrated solutions at the grid-edge. We lead pioneering efforts to simulate sudden electrical events, enhance cybersecurity, and manage the health of grid assets. Through collaborations with utilities, government agencies, and technology partners, we support the rapid deployment of secure, scalable grid solutions that meet current and future energy demands.

Our multidisciplinary approach makes Argonne a national hub for grid modernization, supporting a secure energy future for America.
