Diana D. Anderson

Head of Physical Sciences and Engineering Communications

Biography

Diana Anderson is a strategic communications leader and the head of communications for Argonne National Laboratory’s Physical Sciences and Engineering directorate. Diana oversees internal and external communications for five research divisions, two national scientific user facilities, and more than 900 scientific staff, postdocs, and students.

With expertise in media relations, public relations, executive and crisis communications, digital content, and stakeholder engagement, Diana leads a high-performing team to translate complex scientific advancements into compelling narratives. She works closely with researchers and leadership to drive visibility for fundamental research with impactful storytelling and engagement. As a public information officer and member of Argonne’s emergency management team, she also plays a critical role in communicating during high-profile events and crisis situations.

Prior to her current role, Diana led communications for Argonne’s Center for Nanoscale Materials, a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science user facility, where her strategic storytelling attracted global industry interest in emerging nanotechnology innovations. Earlier in her career, she spearheaded award-winning initiatives in safety communications, organizational change, and institutional branding.

Diana holds a Master of Arts in English from DePaul University and has completed the Strategic Laboratory Leadership Program developed by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards including the UChicago Argonne Pinnacle of Education Award (2013), a Society for Technical Communication Best in Show Award (2015), and the Argonne Board of Governors’ Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Collaborative Research (2020).
