Science Communications Coordinator and Writer

Biography

Lea is a member of the communications team for the Physical Sciences and Engineering directorate at Argonne National Laboratory, where she has served since April 2024. In this role, she develops compelling narratives and communication tools that bring Argonne’s cutting-edge research to life across a wide range of audiences and channels, including news releases, social media, newsletters and internal communications.

She brings more than two decades of professional writing, editing and communications experience spanning science, healthcare, policy and international humanitarian work. Before joining Argonne, Lea spent eight years at the American College of Healthcare Executives as a publications editor, where she managed and contributed to flagship publications. Earlier in her career, Lea reported on environmental policy and air quality and covered medical device and diagnostic industry policy. Her freelance bylines have appeared in The Washington Post, American Libraries Magazine, MedPage Today and other outlets. She also served as a communications officer for Humanity & Inclusion, where she developed communications strategy, managed digital platforms and served as a spokesperson for the U.S. office — including traveling to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake to support field communications efforts.

Lea holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Denison University.
