Biography
Dr. Lori Collins is a Research Development Specialist and a Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) at Argonne National Laboratory, where she contributes to cutting-edge science and research projects at the intersection of environmental science and archaeology. Her work uses advanced 3D technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and GIS-based digital analysis tools to drive innovative solutions for sectors including historic preservation, resource management, environmental science, and decision-making.
With over two decades of leadership in the 3D sector, Dr. Collins is recognized as a pioneer in integrating geospatial methods and emerging technologies into cultural and natural resource management. Her research in digital sciences span aerospace, landscape preservation, and standards for using 3D and AI technologies.
She has contributed to significant digital science projects across the Southeast U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Guatemala, Greece, Armenia, and Spain. She is a founding and expert member of the Aerospace Heritage Scientific Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), where her innovative approaches have advanced the application of modern technologies in preserving aerospace heritage. Her work addresses critical aspects of land and resource management, hazard response, and critical infrastructure documentation, emphasizing high-precision 3D, imaging, and digital tools to enhance conservation practices, develop interpretive content, and support digital science needs. She has successfully led and developed academic research centers, building interdisciplinary teams to tackle real-world challenges, including rapid response and advanced technological applications for documenting and preserving archaeological and historic architectural sites, developing interpretative strategies using 3D and immersive technologies, and in the digitization of museum collections.
