Biography
As a postdoctoral appointee in the Medium Energy Physics group, Noémie Pilleux is actively involved in first-time setups with the CLAS12 experiment at Jefferson Laboratory that will bring new insights to our understanding of the partonic structure of nucleons and nuclei. She explores the origin of the proton spin with the Run Group C experiment where an 11-GeV polarized electron beam is scattered on polarized protons and neutrons. She is measuring the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering reaction for protons and neutrons in deuterium. It is a first-time measurement with high sensitivity to the way the spin of nucleons emerges from the valence quarks composing them, with dependence on their flavor. She studies the possibly partonic origin of nuclear effects with the ALERT experiment, a new detector that was installed with CLAS12 to detect recoil ions in elastic scattering off light nuclei. The detection of the recoil gives important control of both the initial and final states of reactions and allows to probe nuclear effects with minimal ambiguity. With these recent setups, Noémie’s work focuses both on implementing new analysis techniques and developing software tools. Her previous experience is also related to the ePIC experiment at the Electron-Ion Collider, being involved in the hardware development of the electromagnetic calorimeter based on scintillating material readout by silicon photo-multipliers.
