Zhiwan Xu, a postdoctoral researcher at Argonne, was honored with the award for her innovative work on quantum chromodynamics and the quark-gluon plasma, a state of matter that existed just after the Big Bang.

Kanatzidis was recognized for his research on a new class of materials for next-generation photovoltaics, halide perovskites.

Chen received the 2026 ACS E. Bright Wilson Award in Spectroscopy for pioneering research that advances understanding of light-matter interactions critical to next-generation energy conversion technologies.

Argonne researchers received top honors from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office, recognizing achievements in energy storage, analysis and automation.

Projects include research related to advanced nuclear reactor design, battery innovation and semiconductor reliability, among others.

The Royal Society has awarded Michael Thackeray, an emeritus materials chemist and Distinguished Fellow at Argonne, its Leverhulme Medal in recognition of his career in the discovery, design and development of advanced materials for lithium-ion batteries.
