Valerie Taylor’s team provides the numerical tools and technology for solving our nation’s most critical scientific and engineering challenges, and develops software for some of the most powerful computer systems in the world.  As director of the Mathematics and Computer Science division, she focuses her research on performance analysis, power analysis and resiliency, and modeling of parallel, scientific applications.  

Sven Leyffer is interested in the development of methods for solving large-scale nonlinear optimization problems and their extension to other areas such as design-of-experiments, machine learning, quantum computing, and mixed-integer nonlinear optimization.

Rob Ross’s research interests are in system software for high-performance computing systems, in particular distributed storage systems and libraries for I/O and message passing.

Paul Hovland’s research focuses on software development tools for high-performance scientific computing.
