Munson Receives 2024 Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Award

Winning for their work on the Argonne Research Mentor Skills Series, Munson and his three teammates will receive the Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility award October 2024.

Todd Munson, a senior computational scientist in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory, has been awarded the 2024 Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Award by the UChicago Argonne Board of Governors.

Munson and his three teammates received this award for their role in the Argonne Research Mentor Skills Series.  As part of the Argonne Mentoring Program, the team members, all volunteers, facilitate a series of courses for Argonne employees that are designed to develop mentoring skills.  Each course uses activities to build skills and focuses on a different aspect of mentoring, from communication to aligning expectations and assessing understanding.

Our efforts focus on mentoring education to improve mentor-mentee relationships,” Munson said. An important aspect is good communication that acknowledges our diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and life experiences.  By better understanding and applying mentoring skills, the mentors in the Argonne Mentoring Program can better serve the needs of our diverse workforce and make Argonne an even more attractive workplace.”

The award will be presented at a breakfast on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
