Hussein S. Khalil

Hussein S. Khalil is the director of Argonne’s Nuclear Engineering research program. He leads the Lab’s research in nuclear energy development and application.

Biography

Hussein S. Khalil is the director of Argonne’s Nuclear Engineering research program. He provides technical leadership for the development and execution of the Lab’s research in nuclear energy development and application.

Dr. Khalil joined Argonne in 1983 and has carried out research to optimize fast-reactor core design and improve computational methods for reactor physics, dynamics and fuel cycle analysis. He fulfilled key technical and leadership roles in Argonne and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) programs, including the Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (2016 – present), Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation (2010 – 2015), and Generation IV Reactor Systems (2000 – 2010).

Dr. Khalil is an Argonne Distinguished Fellow and a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society. He served as Director of Argonne’s Nuclear Engineering Division from 2003 to 2014.
