Devin Hodge Fellowship Program

Offering hands-on experience across multiple disciplines that power world-class research

The Devin Hodge Fellow (DHF) internship offers undergraduate students a unique opportunity to explore various operational domains at Argonne National Laboratory in the Computing, Environment, and Life Sciences Directorate. This program is designed for students interested in gaining experience in human resources, information technology, communications, building operations, project management, and more. Fellows will engage with experienced professionals, contributing to projects that support the laboratory’s mission of advancing world-class research and innovation.

Opportunities Include

  • Human Resources: Participate in student recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding processes. Collaborate on internal and external communications and support event planning and execution.
  • Information Technology: Engage in system maintenance and implementation initiatives. Use software solutions to analyze data and support decision-making processes.
  • Communications: Participate in creating and disseminating engaging content. This may involve interviewing people and writing stories, supporting events to enhance internal and external communications, assisting with photo and video shoots, and producing social media content.
  • Environment, Safety, and Health: Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and environmental impact evaluations to promote a safe and sustainable work environment. Support developing and implementing health and safety protocols and engage in initiatives to enhance laboratory sustainability practices. This may involve collaborating with safety officers, conducting training sessions, and helping to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Finance and Budget: Engage in financial planning and analysis to support the laboratory’s operational and strategic goals. Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting processes. This may involve analyzing financial data, preparing financial statements, and supporting the development of cost-effective solutions. Collaborate with finance professionals to ensure accurate financial forecasting and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Project Management: Support project managers across multiple ongoing and future activities. Update various project statuses and budgets, schedule follow-up activities as needed, direct involvement in project planning, and provide oversight to completion. Provide ad hoc reports, create Gantt and Quad charts and other tools (e.g., dashboard) necessary for specific projects. Collaborate with stakeholders and other Argonne personnel as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Applicants must be:
    • Currently enrolled in undergraduate studies at an accredited institution; or
    • Graduated from an accredited undergraduate institution within the past 3 months.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
  • Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • If you accept an offer, you must pass a screening drug test.
  • The entire appointment must be conducted within the United States.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required.
  • Strong interest in human resources, information technology, financial management, building operations, project management or related fields.
