Artificial Intelligence in STEM Education

One Ecosystem, Many Pathways

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming how science is conducted, how technology is developed, and how problems are solved across every sector. As AI becomes a core tool in science discovery and innovation, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education must evolve to ensure learners build the critical thinking, data literacy, and technical skills needed in an AI-driven world. Preparing students to understand and responsibly apply AI is now essential to future learning and workforce readiness.

As a leader in AI and scientific discovery, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to raising awareness about the need to prepare STEM learners for an AI-enabled future. These efforts align with and support the goals of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission, which aims to accelerate the AI and quantum innovation and double the productivity and impact of American science and engineering within the next decade.

How is Argonne helping to advance AI in STEM education

Through convenings such as the AI STEM Educator Jam and the AI in STEM Education Summit, Argonne’s Institutional Partnerships team is reaching out to education leaders and decision-makers to expand understanding, provide hands-on learning experiences, and foster collaboration around integrating AI into STEM classrooms.
